  • The search is on. We’re looking for other “real women” to take it all off, figuratively speaking. To share their stories. No, we’re not putting together some kind of old chicks’ nudie calendar or organising a bit of womanly Full Monty action. Sorry. We’re prudes from way back. Especially Alli. Not getting nude anytime soon.

Calendar Girls – raw & exposed! But we’re not getting nude!!

Anyway, back to the task at hand. We created the world of Alli & Genine to inspire and entertain women everywhere struggling through life, facing challenges and issues every day. Normal stuff, but tough stuff, all the same. And while we could (and do) bang-on about ourselves and our worlds incessantly, we’re well aware that when it comes to inspiration, we’re a little light-on.

In our “other” world of magazine publishing, we meet amazing women every day, women who have the most inspiring, encouraging and honest stories to share. And thankfully, we’re really bloody good at banging-on about other people too (i.e. not just ourselves). Actually, it’s what we do best.

So, we’re on the hunt for real women who want to share their stories with us and the world. If you head over to our website (www.alliandgenine.com) you’ll see that we have a section called Real Women (creative, we know!). And when we say real, we mean average, every day chicks. But that’s each and every one of us, including celebrities, supermodels, billionaires, mums, career women, single gals etc etc. Because deep down, we all hurt, we all have fears and we all have issues to overcome, no matter how rich or famous we are. Even Oprah!

    Even Oprah has issues!

The next step for us is to use the fabulous platform you have helped us create to share the thoughts, fears, challenges, triumphs and issues of others. This is where you come in.

Do you know of an especially inspiring woman with a story that simply must be shared with the world? Or would you like to share your own journey and experiences with others?

Perhaps you have views on being a working mum to enlighten and educate? Alli sure could do with a few tips.

Perhaps you have overcome a major tragedy or serious illness and want to give hope to other women going through something similar? We’d love to help.

Perhaps you have been through a particularly nasty divorce and have a few funny tales to tell, in hindsight?

Perhaps you have faced financial ruin, have made it through to the other side, and now have bucket loads of cash?

Perhaps you have lost a baby and want to help other ladies struggling through the darkest period of their lives?

Or perhaps you have a few embarrassing secrets to share with the world. After all, Genine confessed to being a bossy bogan and Alli to being a cougar on her second marriage with a thing for short men. Laughter makes the world go round, and we like to laugh at ourselves and at others (in a good way) often and loudly.

Over the next few weeks we will start populating our Real Women section with a wide range of stories on a wide range of very real women. So, get your nominations in. All we need is a brief overview (a few short paras or dot points is fine) – the woman, the angle, the challenge, the story. We will take it from there.

Email alli@alliandgenine.com with the words REAL WOMEN in the subject line, and we will collate the responses and start locking in lovely ladies ASAP. Exciting times ahead!

Do you have a story to share or do you know of someone super inspiring who does?

Interview with Kylie Patchett from the Tall Poppy Project

    Natalie

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?”

    Kylie

I don’t take orders well! Ha ha – really I wanted time and money flexibility to travel with my family and also be a present Mummy and partner. Last time I had a “real job” I worked 80 hour weeks and was on call 24 hours a day (literally, I managed a sleep lab) – there is no joy in living like that and I deserve better  as does my family Shane, Abby and Clio”.

    Natalie

What were some of your initial challenges? (eg getting your message out there, publicity, finding direction, finding clients, money, budgetting)”

    Kylie

Having to back yourself a lot and travel the inevitable ups and downs of setting up a business initially – having faith that what you have is wanted by someone somewhere! Budgetting has never been a strong point of mine, however we are finally seeing a financial planner and a real live business accountant when we return from the States! My main challenge would still be not getting caught up in the day to day distractions and keeping my feelings and my intentions on how I want my business to feel for me as the owner and for the clients I wish to help and inspire”.

    Natalie

What do you know now that you wish you knew back then?”

    Kylie

That the crappy crappy times often fashion something marvellous and shiny from us deep deep within our core. Had you told me in my depths of woe this time last year that I would be this inspired and vibrating with potential and magnificence now I would have told you to go “get knotted”!! I also wish I could have been less hard on myself when I knew I wanted to leave our old business but kept saying I could not – if I had the guts to follow my intuition it would have been a lot less stressful.”

    Natalie

Why do you think NetConnect is always a huge success and why have you agreed to be involved?”

    Kylie

This Seminar showcases real women who have built super-powered businesses but showcases them in a manner that there is no mistaking that they are ordinary people who dreamed bigger than most. I love that this gives me permission to do the same!”

    Natalie

What are your 3 top tips to creating a successful solo business?”

    Kylie

    1. Find a darn good cheersquad to share your successes and your challenges

    2. Focus on how you want the business to FEEL – if it feels too hard, it is, you have to look at that as either a message it’s not right or a message that you need to find someone else to help with that bit

    3. Maintain daily practices of self respect that keep you even-keeled when navigating the waters of solo business.

    Natalie

What satisfies you most about owning your business?”

    Kylie

I get to do what I am good at and it helps other people – so so simple. I have found where my passion, gifts and ability collide! EUREKA!”

     Natalie

Would you ever give it up? your own business? could you?”

    Kylie

Hmmm, of course I would if it was a choice between my family or my health and the business.

However, I would still do this even if I had all the money in the world, because being the mirror that reflects back someone elses potential is an absolute privilege, and I get just as much out of it as my client does. How excitement!!”

  • “Conscious Relationship; What is it?”

When I was young, I used to imagine my perfect man and intimate relationship. He knew me so well I did not have to tell him what I needed… he simply knew. And he was so loyal and faithful, I did not even think he could hurt me or let me down in any way. And he was so affectionate and verbally communicative, I just knew how much he really loved me … And then I grew up and experienced Real Life!!!

The Cold Hard Reality of Relationships

The childhood romantic dream often becomes shattered and annihilated through life’s all too real experiences in intimate relationship. So many people are then left bitter. They sometimes blame their ex-partners for destroying their lives and devastating their hearts decades after separation. Some people never recover from some relationship breakups, other try to piece their lives together and prepare themselves for their next relationship. Some people turn their backs on intimate relationships altogether and decide to live a peaceful life alone.

The drive and motivation for relationship is extremely strong for a lot of people. It is not so much a consciously thought out drive, but rather more like an emotional magnetism. Rationally, a lot of people acknowledge the difficulties and challenges of intimate relationship, especially after they have tried it a least once or twice. Healthy relationships are found to be generally positive for people’s mental and physical health, however, unhealthy relationships can have the opposite effect. But it is often not reason that drives us… instead it is ‘chemistry’ (or maybe karma)! And the casualty? Everyone, especially our hearts!

The Real Reason Why Relationships Don’t Work

As hard as it is to acknowledge… the reason our intimate relationships often fail is not because our ex-partners are idiots, but rather because working through unconscious patterns is legitimately difficult! Relationships commonly bring up emotional wounds and reactivity from childhood that we thought we had outgrown. As a couples counsellor, it is amazing how couples behave towards each other that they would not otherwise be seen acting dead towards anyone else in the same way. It is like all normal respectful ways of relating to other adults goes out the window when you are sleeping with that person.

In a previous blog on unconscious relationships, I described how childhood patterns and emotional memories can keep us bound in unconscious painful dynamics. I also explained how these unconscious reactions usually begin to surface in the second stage of the relationship. Click here to read more about unconscious relationships. The answer to escaping from these unconscious relationship dynamics is to become conscious of our own emotional patterns. This is the art of conscious relationship.

    Conscious Relationships

Conscious relationships do not guarantee that a relationship will last. However it is a conscious practice that significantly improves the chances that it will last or at least will be respectful. It does not mean that unconscious patterns and emotional memories will not raise their heads… they will! What it does mean is that there is a process that people can work through their emotions and gain self-awareness. In turn, this increases the chances that a couple will not separate because they could not work through the pain and aggravation of their patterns being triggered by their relationship.

Conscious Relationship is first a process of knowing thy self! The more aware of how our childhood conditioning results in our reactions to current life events, the more we can take our power back from the patterns. Mindfulness practice is a great way of discovering what these patterns are about. If we witness our thoughts, feelings and actions we gain clarity of ourselves and our choices. In conscious relationship, the trick is to communicate your awareness of your own patterns with your partner rather than believe your partner is the cause of your pain and then blame them for it. This last sentence is the key to conscious relationships… so read it again slowly and carefully…

In conscious relationship, the trick is to communicate your awareness of your own patterns with your partner, rather than believe your partner is the cause of your pain and then blame them for it.

Conscious relationship is a beautiful process of self awareness in context and the reflection of another. It is in intimate relationship that we can learn our toughest lessons, and that we have the opportunity to look at ourselves with the eyes of truth, where before we wold not dare.

How could your intimate relationship benefit from increasing self awareness with your partner?

Interview with Jodie Taylor Paterson from JTP Communications

    Natalie

“What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?”

     Jodie

After a fast paced career as an ABC Journalist turned Qantas executive in Sydney, I decided to bite the bullet during my maternity leave and start my own media training and consultancy business in Queensland. As we all know, work/life balance can be a difficult juggling act when you have children, and I was keen to explore ways to continue my career on my own terms.””I don’t know that I would describe myself as an entrepreneur just yet as I’m still closely aligned to the corporate world (and officially on maternity leave from Qantas!) but I’m definitely enjoying creating my own work-map!”

     Natalie

What were some of your initial challenges (eg getting your message out there, publicity, finding direction, finding clients, money, budgeting)”

     Jodie

For me, the major challenge has been “tweaking” the direction of my business and redefining my focus to align with my true passions.  I have to thank the extraordinary Carren Smith for helping me through this process and achieving more clarity in one afternoon, than I had experienced in three months!!

After initially following the traditional path and offering personal PR/media management services, I soon realized that I would have greater impact through media training and empowering people to unleash their own PR potential. This has also allowed me to focus on corporate consulting in strategic communication, crisis management and my absolute passion – customer service excellence.”

     Natalie

What do you know now that you wish you knew back then?”

     Jodie

“How much support is available for budding entrepreneurs such as The Enlightened Goddess Network! I’ve been amazed at the number of talented women on the Sunshine Coast who are achieving wonderful things and are more than happy to generously share their wisdom. What an amazing hub of talent!”

     Natalie

Why do you think NetConnect is a huge success and why have you agreed to be involved?”

     Jodie

Natalie has done a wonderful job redefining the “face” of networking, and demonstrating that you can successfully mix business and pleasure! The Netconnect events are a unique opportunity to meet credible professionals and broaden your knowledge in a relaxed environment. I’m thrilled to be involved as I genuinely support the concept. I’m confident that Natalie’s events will continue to attract high caliber participants and gain momentum in the business community.”

     Natalie

What are your 3 top tips for creating a successful solo business?”

     Jodie

    1. Have a clear strategy for the growth of your business, and invest in expertise (Media/PR, business management etc.) to take your business to the next level.
    2.  Find a mentor (someone you admire and is successful in their field) and be committed to continuous improvement.
    3. Always put your customers first, and develop solid networks.

    Natalie

What satisfies you most about owning your own business?”

     Jodie

“Being able to pursue my passions and help clients reach their full potential, while still being a hands-on mum to my beautiful baby boy.”

     Natalie

Would you ever give it up? your own business? could you?”

     Jodie

To be honest, I want the best of both worlds! I’m keen to keep my finger on the pulse of the corporate world while also pursuing my own business interests around media management and customer service excellence. Stay tuned for some exciting projects in 2012!”

Jodie will be sharing how the right PR strategies can monetise your business in 2012, at the NetConnect seminar on 15th March more info here

What inspired you become an entrepreneur?”

“Since I was a small child I have always been super busy! I have always loved the stimulation and variety of managing multiple tasks at once and the Macquarie dictionary definition of “Entrepreneur is” someone who organises and manages any enterprise”which suits me fine! Like most entrepreneurs I started my own business because I couldn’t find what I was looking for out there, a community of supportive women. I guess I am the type of woman that just gets in there and gets it done if I can’t find it elsewhere.”

What were some of your initial challenges (eg getting your message out there, publicity, finding direction, finding clients, money, budgetting?)”

Ha ha, everything!! Four years ago I didn’t even know the term “networking” let alone how to write a marketing plan or business plan and was terrified of social media.  Then I had to learn how to write and design a website with all the right funtionality(thaks to Wayne from www.chillinut.com.au for all his patience!!) I have had to learn how to do ever single part of my business including social media, blogging, press releases, marketing etc etc and through that reactive and stressful period of set up I also had to keep  on believing in ME and my ideas that was the hardest part!”

What do you know now that you wish you knew back then?

Mmm heaps! Everything! Especially how important it is to get clear on what you love doing, what you do well and what you can outsource. Dont’ try to do it all alone!”

Why do you think NetConnect is always a huge success and why have you created this seminar series?

Because it brings together a unique blend together of learning, socialising, connecting and promoting in a supportive and friendly environment. The speakers are chosen for their skills and qualifications in their preferred field and the tips they share are real life tips that you can implement easily into your business right now! There is always a buzz of excitement, inspiration and motivation in the air at a NetConnect seminar and the mini expo gives us a great chance to try products and services before we buy. Takes the facelssness out of advertising.”

“What are your 3 top tips for creating a successful solo business ?”

    1. Clarity- be clear on what you are offering and your goals don’t let others sway you
    2. Connect-with other like minded women, find mentors, find your community, tribe or netowrk to belong to
    3. Contributebe generous, support others whenever you can

What satisfies you most  about owning  your own small business?”

“The freedom to create what’s in my heart, the variety of roles I play, being able to drop everything and put my family first. The women I meet,  I would not be who I am today without each and everyone of the women who have been part of my business, I am eternally grateful for each woman what a gift they are!

Would you ever give it up? your own business? could you?

No….. No….. No….. I will just keep evolving, growing and reinventing myself through my business every year.”

Interview with Jaine Hall from More than Skin Deep

    Natalie

What inspired you become an entrepreneur?”

    Janine

“I honestly think it is in my blood, my brain is very creative and feels stifled at the usual 9-5 humdrum.I have driven myself nuts over the years, but as I mature I have learnt to except this as part of my DNA.I think I started when I was a young girl, one of my earliest memories of “Entrepreneurship”….. I was about 9 or 10 and my friend and I decided to put on a concert, we sold tickets for $2 each and did a performance (in our orange crocheted bikinis) Ohh… did I mention all the boys in the neighbourhood bought tickets. Neighbours and friends came and it was a great afternoon – We made about $20-$30…”

    Natalie

What were some of your initial challenges (eg getting your message out there, publicity, finding direction, finding clients, money, budgetting?)”

    Janine

Publicity is one of the hardest things to master and I think I lost $100’s if not $1000’s) on doing the wrong thing. When you first start especially when you offer a service and perhaps a luxury one at that, it can be a challenge… but within I would say maybe 3 years I had learnt to retain clients and getting them rebooking before they left.”

    Natalie

“What do you know now that you wish you knew back then?

    Janine

Wow…. Wow…. Wow this is a biggy…. – that sometimes bigger is not always better. Don’t take on everything as you are only 1 person and that’s ok. Don’t be at the mercy of others, be your own boss. Choose something out of all the things you may enjoy and love to do, and make that one thing your focus”

    Natalie

Why do you think NetConnect is always a huge success and why have you agreed to be involved?

    Janine

I love the NetConnect seminar, it’s fantastic – unlike a lunch or brunch you tend to have a lot more time to “connect” and get to know others.
The speakers always manage to teach me something, and I come away with more knowledge and understanding of other people and what makes their heart’s sing.
I like having a trade table as once again people can see, touch feel, and smell my products and try before they buy”, and if you put 45 odd women into a room, you are sure going to create some great energy, which is always fantastic!!!!!!

    Natalie

“What are your 3 top tips for creating a successful solo business ?”

    Janine

    1. Find Support – This to me is number 1, as you will get lost in your own thought’s of can and can’t do’s, beliefs and disbeliefs….. there is a whole world out there waiting to help you.

    2. Definitely find your one passion – that you just wouldn’t be you without, and stick to…… do not give up, change a few things if you find you have to but NEVER GIVE UP

    3. Take time out, don’t over do it, and relax and enjoy the journey, your business will continually evolve just like you…

    Natalie

What satisfies you most  about owning  your own small business?”

    Janine

“It’s a confidence thing, watching someone emerge into them selves, kinda like a caterpillar to a butterfly. The smiles and thank you’s I get from clients who are genuinely happy with their new look, and knowing that they are doing it safely with good natural products  is a big thing for me.It’s also the diversity and different things that pop up everyday.Creating, discovering and teaching things to my clients is also hugeI absolutely love what I do and what I have created!!!

    Natalie

Would you ever give it up? your own business? could you?

    Janine

No….. No….. No….. I did take some time out, to think…… but I kept getting phone calls with customers tracking me down, wanting products…..”

How do you behave at networking events? Are you focused and determined to meet everyone in the room or do you take the time to connect more consciously with others?

If you think Networking is about racing around a room full of people thrusting your business cards in their face, eating lunch then sitting at the office waiting for the phone to ring…. you have got it all wrong.Networking is never about YOU! It is always about what YOU can do for OTHERS!!! and like all social encounters there are “rules of etiquette” that begin before you even arrive at the event.

    Pre Event

    1. book your ticket early and advise if you are unable to attend with plenty of notice

    2. advise the host of any diet needs

    3. share the invitation with others via email and social media, add post or comment to the event’s page

    4. do a little research on the Network and the speakers

    5. connect with the host through social media and/or email/phone to introduce yourself

    6. be on time- allow time for parking

    At the Event

    1. introduce yourself to the host

    2. if offering a lucky door prize deliver this as you register

    3. find your seat and introduce yourself to the guests at your table

    4. ASK others to share their story, info, business card etc

    5. contribute to others within your network, what can you do for them??

    5. be a good listener, interesting talker and be truly interested in those around you

    6. invite others to take your card don’t thrust it upon them

    7. remember to take your business cards home with you – leftover cards will end up in the rubbish!

    8. be genuine! and authentic, no use pretending you are not who or what you say you are

9 be willing to share tips and strategies with others

    Post Event

    1. if you loved the event tell others and leave a positive comment on the event’s social media page

    2. book your ticket to their next event early

    3. respect the details of the contacts that you have met at the event, do not give those contacts out to others unless referring their services

    4. be  a referrer, the best way to contribute to others is to refer their services

    5. support your network and it’s members wherever you can, word of mouth is still THE best marketing

    6. connect with the guests you have met  through email or phone eg “Hi Jane nice to meet you at xz networking events this week I would love to meet with you to discuss, bla bla”

    7. DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY ADD THEM to your newsletter mailouts, send them an email inviting them to subscribe

    8. if you are interested in being a speaker, sponsor or member of that network then find out what is involved

    9. STAY connected and supportive of your network.  It may seem very social to be buzzing from one event to the next, however at the end of the month you may just end up with just a whole stack of pretty business cards.  When you take the time to Connect with others on a deeper more conscious level, you will be astounded at the professional and personal growth and benefits that you will achieve.

We all know people- people we live with, play with, work with and shop with and we walk around with this little ” internal network” in our heads. So that means when you are attending a networking event it is never about you meeting a room full of people , it is about you meeting the “internal networks” of all those people in the room. You won’t know those people and the only way you can connect with them is by connecting with that person right there! Now that is huge potential for business growth right there!

Imagine a room full of business women who have set their intention to be authentic and genuine and are willing to contribute to you and your business no strings attached! Imagine the power in that room, imagine if everyone woman there was contributing to the others, giving freely of her time and energy, just imagine what you will receive from those 50 or so women?

Join us at an Enlightened Goddesses event soon and you will know exactly how that feels.

    Donna

The poor and needy children in Asia. I wanted to raise money to fund their education to give them a bright and hopeful future. Bella Donna Silver was born to act as a vehicle to raise funds to give to the children to do so. In turn we included into the model fair trade to give local jewellers in Asia the opportunity to help them support themselves making their beautiful jewellery for us at fair prices. Then in turn selling the jewellery in Australia to retailers and consumers who love our jewellery and our mission. Profits from sales are then given to the children in the orphanages to contribute to their education and lifestyle”.

    Natalie

What were some of your initial challenges (eg getting your message out there, publicity, finding direction, finding clients, money, budgetting)?

    Donna

“Coming up with the money to get started and afford the high costs involved in exhibiting at gift trade fairs. We sold our home and used the money from that to get started. Then we crossed our fingers and prayed A LOT.”

    Natalie

What do you know now that you wish you knew back then”

    Donna

“How to Budget the stock, categorise the stock into A, B & Cs, not overbuy any items in case they go from good sellers to dead wood.”

    Natalie

“Why do you think the NetConnect seminar is always a huge success and why have you agreed to be involved?”

    Donna

NetConnect is a great education day. I learn so much from the speakers and the exhibitors on ideas and tips on how to grow my business. There’s so much out there that I just don’t know about and in one event I learn loads of new ways to get my message out there and simplify the way I do things in the business”.

    Natalie

What are your 3 top tips to creating a successful solo business?”

    Donna

    1. Never give up

    2. Separate home from work – get dressed up and go to work, even if it means leaving home by the back gate and then arriving at work via the front gate.

    3. Get savvy on the best places and ways to promote your business. Know who your ideal client and don’t waste money throwing top $$ away at advertising in areas you’re either not getting results or unsure of will work.

    Natalie

What satisfies you most about owning your business?”

    Donna

The love I give to my Team, clients, suppliers and children in Asia.”

    Natalie

Would you ever give it up? your own business? could you?

    Donna

    Never.

What inspired you become an entrepreneur?”

    Carren

A world of hurt that made me feel worthless and hopeless and no way out. I wanted to make sure no one else felt like that, so I educated myself on mindset and neuroscience and started coaching other people to find their feet as I found mine. After a while I realised I had the capability and capacity to work with much larger audiences and launched what exists now as a suite of seminars, workshop and forums which contribute to thousands of people globally. I was inspired to make a difference on a massive scale and contribute to the expansion of humanity.”

Why do you think the NetConnect Seminar is always a huge success and why have you agreed to be involved?

    Carren

” The people who come are open to learning and wanting to step into the next level of their business, whatever that may be. These woman are serious about their message or service and want to make a difference with it, they are not just doing it for a hobby! I know I’m speaking to women who are of a like mind and just like me. It’s like being at home with family except we are all chomping at the bit to be brilliant”.

What are your 3 top tips to creating a successful solo business?”

    Carren

    3. Be creative and trust your judgement. You know better than anyone else what is right for you. Stop looking to others for their opinion, trust your own guidance, there is no right or wrong, just FUN!
    2. Be prepared to go where no one else is willing. Be prepared to stand out in the crowd, not by how loud you yell, but by how unique you are! BE YOU in everything you do and you’ll stand out. Follow the crowd and you become one of them
    1. Think like a successful person thinks. Never indulge in the luxury of a negative thought or action. Be vigilant with yourself and hold yourself to the highest standard. Don’t play in the same field as everyone else! Dare to be YOU and MAKE IT KNOWN that you are here to start a new game!!! DON’T HOLD BACK for anything. There isn’t time!!!”
