Interview with Kylie Patchett from the Tall Poppy Project
Natalie
“What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?”
Kylie
“I don’t take orders well! Ha ha – really I wanted time and money flexibility to travel with my family and also be a present Mummy and partner. Last time I had a “real job” I worked 80 hour weeks and was on call 24 hours a day (literally, I managed a sleep lab) – there is no joy in living like that and I deserve better as does my family Shane, Abby and Clio”.
Natalie
“What were some of your initial challenges? (eg getting your message out there, publicity, finding direction, finding clients, money, budgetting)”
Kylie
“Having to back yourself a lot and travel the inevitable ups and downs of setting up a business initially – having faith that what you have is wanted by someone somewhere! Budgetting has never been a strong point of mine, however we are finally seeing a financial planner and a real live business accountant when we return from the States! My main challenge would still be not getting caught up in the day to day distractions and keeping my feelings and my intentions on how I want my business to feel for me as the owner and for the clients I wish to help and inspire”.
Natalie
“What do you know now that you wish you knew back then?”
Kylie
“That the crappy crappy times often fashion something marvellous and shiny from us deep deep within our core. Had you told me in my depths of woe this time last year that I would be this inspired and vibrating with potential and magnificence now I would have told you to go “get knotted”!! I also wish I could have been less hard on myself when I knew I wanted to leave our old business but kept saying I could not – if I had the guts to follow my intuition it would have been a lot less stressful.”
Natalie
“Why do you think NetConnect is always a huge success and why have you agreed to be involved?”
Kylie
“This Seminar showcases real women who have built super-powered businesses but showcases them in a manner that there is no mistaking that they are ordinary people who dreamed bigger than most. I love that this gives me permission to do the same!”
Natalie
“What are your 3 top tips to creating a successful solo business?”
Kylie
1. Find a darn good cheersquad to share your successes and your challenges
2. Focus on how you want the business to FEEL – if it feels too hard, it is, you have to look at that as either a message it’s not right or a message that you need to find someone else to help with that bit
3. Maintain daily practices of self respect that keep you even-keeled when navigating the waters of solo business.
Natalie
“What satisfies you most about owning your business?”
Kylie
“I get to do what I am good at and it helps other people – so so simple. I have found where my passion, gifts and ability collide! EUREKA!”
Natalie
“Would you ever give it up? your own business? could you?”
Kylie
“Hmmm, of course I would if it was a choice between my family or my health and the business.
However, I would still do this even if I had all the money in the world, because being the mirror that reflects back someone elses potential is an absolute privilege, and I get just as much out of it as my client does. How excitement!!”
