  • Top Networking Tip #3

    Following  up.

How annoying is it when you go to a networking event, meet some great people and days later when you are trying to remember who they were or what their business name was etc, you can’t recall it! A great way to make sure this doesn’t happen is to follow them up immediately.

If you just drop a quick email or phone call to the new contacts in the days following the event, you will have connected beyond the event. Your details will be in their database and vice versa. You have continued the fragile connection you made at the event and strengthened it a little bit more.

This is a great way to build better relationships with the people you meet at events. It shows you cared about them enough to say hi and follow up any conversations that were left unfinished, gives you an opportunity to explain a little more about what you do and invite them to experience your service or products, it also strengthens both your networks, for you can only cross promote or form alliances when you can trust others.

If you have said to someone that you will find them a contact, do something for them or get back to them about something, then please please please, make sure you do. Your business success depends on your reputation, your committment to keep your word and your ability to make and maintain strong connections with others.

If someone has said they will get back to you and they haven’t then don’t let ego get in the way and play the old mexican stand off or make a judgement about that, simple drop them a line and a gentle reminder.

At the very least it is an exercise in forming stronger relationships in business and being the best person you can be.

Who have you forgotten to follow up lately?
